ABOUT

Hey there, I’m Sihan, the artist behind CanisCatus! I am a self-taught illustrator, character designer, and amateur animator based in sunny Los Angeles, California. As you can probably tell, I love to draw, but when I’m not making art, I like to listen to music, play video games, read, or hang out with my cats.A Little Background Info
Art has been my greatest passion for as long as I can remember. Some of my fondest memories begin in 2017, when I first began making digital art while I was in elementary school. Soon, I was creating my own characters and making comics with them, as well as posting my own animated music videos to YouTube.
This all happened after I had moved to the U.S. from China, which was certainly not easy. In addition, I was dealing with bullying, isolation, and living in an abusive household at the same time. Throughout all this turmoil, art was my anchor, providing me with the consistency and support I didn’t have in other places. It helped me express my emotions and personal identity in a safe way, and continued helping me navigate several major life changes, including the death of my birth mother, my placement into the foster care system, and my personal struggles with mental health. My Mission StatementToday, art continues to play a vital role in my life. As a neurodivergent and queer artist of color with experience in foster care, I aim to spread awareness and represent diverse and often underrepresented groups, as well as express my unique cultural identity and innermost emotions. I also aspire to use my art as a way to inspire and uplift others by bringing a smile to their faces. And sometimes I make art just for the joy of it!I hope you enjoy the whimsical work that I do, and thank you for being a part of my creative journey and for all your support!

Here are some examples of my works. I enjoy experimenting with a variety of mediums, from traditional methods to digital ones. (By the way, I’m always trying out new things…please check back anytime to see if I’ve added anything new!)For digital art, I currently use Procreate on iPad. I also have previous experience with FireAlpaca, iBIS Paint X, Medibang Paint, and Inkscape. For animation, I previously used FlipaClip, but I also have experience with Adobe Animate, Procreate, and Adobe Character Animator.
